"Christmas concert, but not just a Christmas carol concert." This is how Yona describes her Christmas encounters with the Vantaa Entertainment Orchestra.
The evening promises an atmospheric, meditative and, in Yona's style, also surprising experience. Instead of traditional Christmas carols, listeners will hear Christmas-appropriate pieces such as Ave Maria and the space-themed track known from the Snowman animation, as well as Yona's own music in new arrangements. The audience will also get a taste of the artist's new, as yet unpublished music.
– The concert is slow-paced and perfect for recharging, whatever the listener's relationship with Christmas may be. My goal is that everyone present leaves home feeling self‑compassionate and calm, the artist states.
The concert name comes from Yona's childhood.
– In my childhood home there was an oil painting painted by my father, which he called Blue Moment. It depicted a wintery, blue‑toned landscape into which I often immersed myself. I imagined elves and fairies, shooting stars and wishes there. From that landscape the concert name Blue Christmas was born.
Yona and the Vantaa Entertainment Orchestra have been heard at the Music House before. Yona × Saimaa: Solovey in autumn 2025 was in many ways an unforgettable experience.
– VVO is a wonderful, relaxed and daring orchestra with which one can do bold things. It works excellently in pop‑meets‑classical music type projects, the artist says.
– The fact that the orchestra musicians are assembled specifically for this concert – that each of them wants to be part of this project – is truly significant!
Vantaa Entertainment Orchestra's managing director Janne Rönnbäck says that a Christmas concert outside of religious themes had been considered for a long time in VVO. When Yona launched her own Blue Christmas concert in 2025, the orchestra immediately knew with whom they wanted to develop the idea.
– Yona is a brilliant singer and songwriter, a true artist. She is 100 % present and always manages to surprise with her daring performance, he says.
– The same is visible and felt in our collaboration. There is something special in Yona's positivity and artistry that is hard to describe in words.
Yona lives and makes music in Jyväskylä – surrounded by silence, nature and clear seasons. She is currently working on her tenth solo album.
Her first solo album Pilvet liikkuu, minä en (The Clouds Move, I Don't) was released in 2010, over fifteen years ago. The idea feels incredible and eye‑opening.
– Time passes really quickly. When you realize that, you also understand the significance of important people and the time spent with them. From that we can build a wonderful bridge to the upcoming Christmas concert! One can actually come there quite well alone. I am everyone's friend. And the energies of the Music House support wonderfully.
