THE CONDUCTOR AND PROGRAM OF THE UMO CLUB WILL CHANGE, THE SOLOIST REMAINS THE SAME!
The visit of conductor‑composer‑pianist Christian Elsässer to UMO is cancelled. As a replacement conductor, the Argentine‑born composer, pianist and orchestra leader Guillermo Klein, who served as UMO's artistic partner in 2020–2021, will take over. He will curate a program of his own compositions for the October club, featuring, besides the Norwegian guitar virtuoso Lage Lund who appears as a soloist for the first time with UMO, the orchestra’s own soloists. Klein will also arrange two of Lund’s compositions for this visit and special ensemble.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, educated in the United States and now living in New York, composer, pianist and conductor Guillermo Klein (b. 1969) is a global jazz figure with a versatile musical background: classical upbringing, rock, jazz studies, and Latin influences. Klein has collaborated with major ensembles such as the hr‑Bigband and the Metropole Orchestra and leads his own large Los Guachos orchestra.
Lage Lund (b. 1977) belongs to the most respected jazz guitarists and composers of his generation. The Norwegian, active in New York, is known for his distinctive technique, which he always employs on his own terms. Lund rose to international fame after winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz competition in 2005. Since then he has been a genre‑shaping figure, releasing several acclaimed albums and collaborating with top jazz names such as Maria Schneider and Melissa Aldana. Lund’s creative and adventurous music is timeless yet uncompromisingly modern. lagelund.com
