Venue: Topelius-sali Sipoo
Description
20-35 € UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra will perform again in the Topelius Hall in Sipoo in October 2026! The visit of conductor‑composer‑pianist Christian Elsässer to UMO and Sipoo is cancelled. As a replacement conductor, the Argentine‑born composer, pianist and orchestra leader Guillermo Klein, who served as UMO’s artistic partner in 2020–2021, will take the podium. He has prepared a programme from his own compositions for the visit, centred on the Norwegian guitar virtuoso Lage Lund, who appears as a soloist with UMO for the first time, as well as the orchestra’s own soloists. Klein will also arrange two of Lund’s compositions for this concert and the special ensemble. Note: the same concert programme will be heard on Saturday 17 Oct in Helsinki, at the Music House Black Box. The concert lasts about 75 minutes, no intermission. No age limit. UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra brings jazz to the Swedish‑speaking regions of Finland with the support of the Svenska kulturfonden. Thank you for the support! Guillermo Klein, born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, studied in the United States and now lives in New York, is a global jazz figure with a versatile musical background: classical upbringing, rock, jazz studies, and Latin influences. Klein has collaborated with major orchestras such as the hr‑Bigband and the Metropole Orchestra. He also leads his own large ensemble Los Guachos. Lage Lund (b. 1977) belongs to the most respected jazz guitarists and composers of his generation. The Norwegian, active in New York, is known for his distinctive technique, which he always uses on music’s terms. Lund rose to international fame by winning the prestigious Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz competition in 2005. Since then he has been a genre‑defining artist, released several acclaimed albums and collaborated with top jazz names such as Maria Schneider and Melissa Aldana. Lund’s creative and adventurous music is timeless yet uncompromisingly modern. www.lagelund.com UMO Helsinki Jazz Orchestra – jazz feats and artistic showcases since 1975!
