Description
Welcome to Tölöläb's monthly club!
At each club, Tölöläb meets a new artist without a preset plan. A shared musical language and the evening's performance are created only on stage.
The October club's guest is Maija Kauhanen, an internationally touring one‑woman orchestra, whose music combines kantele, vocals and percussion with improvisation and a distinctive sound world.
Kauhanen's music draws from Finno‑Ugric folk music, but also includes influences from indie pop and film music. Alongside traditional instruments, sound is produced with unconventional playing techniques and found objects.
Improvisation is an essential part of Kauhanen's work and composition. With Tölöläb, the music this time is created entirely in the moment – without a pre‑arranged structure.
Tölöläb is known for its open‑minded approach to blending different musical styles and art forms. The band's philosophy and art can be explored in Yle's mini‑documentary Tölöläb – Tracing the Sounds.
Production: Kulttuurikomppania Eloa
The club is supported by the Arts Promotion Centre and the City of Helsinki.
