RSO & Nicholas Collon & Senja Rummukainen

Nicholas Collon, conductor Senja Rummukainen, cello Joseph Haydn: Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major Gustav Mahler: Symphony No. 9 Mahler, awaiting death, composed the ninth symphony to the rhythm of his failing heart. The work begins with a sigh of farewell, but as Mahler extracts every drop of joy and misery from an intense life, the farewell becomes more a beginning than an end. Nicholas Collon and the RSO embark on an unforgettable journey through the symphony. Yet there is no shadow without light, and fortunately cellist Senja Rummukainen steps onto the stage bringing the sunshine and festive spirit of Haydn’s cheerful concerto.
