Jean Sibelius: Violin Concerto in D minor, Op. 47
Magnus Lindberg: Kraft
“This cannot be believed to be true,” declared Gramophone magazine of the 2025 Sibelius Violin Competition winner, Korean violinist Sueye Park’s performance. Park’s interpretation of Sibelius’s violin concerto crowns the Independence Day music celebration. Conducted by Nicholas Collon, the concert presents both the past and the future in familiar fashion. The opening is Aina Korhonen’s bubbling overture from the early twentieth century, and the afternoon culminates with Magnus Lindberg’s modernist classic Kraft, full of explosively energetic definitions.
