Description
The world‑music legend Piirpauke concerts at Kanneltalo.
Undoubtedly one of the most popular Finnish instrumental ensembles of all time, Piirpauke has over the years dived without prejudice into the musical traditions of many different cultures, including nuevo flamenco, mbalax, jazz, progressive rock, música llanera as well as Romanian and Turkish music. In the spirit of their latest album Lumon, the Kanneltalo gig will feature works by Jean Sibelius, Oskar Merikanto, Toivo Kuula, Selim Palmgren and Yrjö Kilpinen.
The debut album of the band, which was formed in 1975 with the Pori Jazz festival, has sold more copies than any other Finnish‑released instrumental long‑play record. Enjoying wide acclaim and counted among the most important names of its genre, Piirpauke has performed hundreds of concerts worldwide during its distinguished career and has shared stages with top names such as Miles Davis, Ravi Shankar, Astor Piazzolla and Nirvana.
