Description
In 2026, 100 years will have passed since jazz symbolically arrived in Finland aboard the ship Andania. The year is therefore a historic celebration year for domestic jazz: Jazz Finland 100 – celebration year. To mark the year, the Finnish Jazz Federation will organise a nationwide Jazz Finland 100 celebration concert tour for the whole family in November 3–17 2026.
For the Jazz Finland 100 celebration year, the Finnish Jazz Federation, together with drummer and bandleader Teppo Mäkynen, has assembled a super‑band for the tour that will present new arrangements of gems from Finnish jazz music. The ensemble, drawn from different generations of musicians, incorporates in its expression electronic music, R&B and rap sounds and rhythms, bringing the history of Finnish jazz into the present day. At the heart of the concert is the joy of making and experiencing music, propelled by the band's energetic expression.
Bandleader Teppo Mäkynen is one of the country's most respected jazz musicians. Mäkynen is known for his open‑minded and visionary ability to move between different musical styles, and his music has reached a wide new jazz audience. The lineup also includes Finnish jazz legend, saxophonist Timo Lassy, internationally acclaimed bassist Kaisa Mäensivu, and rising stars: vocalist‑keyboardist Maja Mannila and vibraphonist Mikko Antila.
For this family‑oriented celebration concert, tickets for those under 18 cost only the service fee (1.60 €).
