¡Ya Voy! is a magical journey of four musicians to the meeting point of traditional Colombian music and improvised music.
The ensemble sings its utopia and creates an imaginative, lively and dynamic new folk heritage.
Alejandra Charry and Moises Zamora Mesú grew up together in the village of Cabuyal Candelarian in Valle del Cauca, western Colombia. Alejandra arrived in France in 2004, while Moises still lives in Colombia. Sakina Abdou and Thibault Cellier's paths have crossed on the European jazz and improvised music scene for a decade without having previously had the opportunity to play together.
The band's music features traditional Colombian music with its swaying triple‑time rhythms, freedom‑celebrating chants and percussion, dance and trance and its social relationship to music. The music of ¡Ya Voy! also contains the freedom of jazz and improvised music, commitment and the adoption of traditions while being firmly rooted in the present moment.
¡Ya Voy! is the union of two improvisational traditions – folk music and free jazz. The richness of sharing diversity is at the core of ¡Ya Voy!'s music, which carries a strong cultural heritage. At the crossroads there is an unrestrained space of free music.
